5G: Apple dispenses Intel modems for future iPhone?
Apple will not use Intel's wi-fi modem when it launches the iPhone models based on 5G connections in 2020. The apple brand will have even informed its hitherto technological partner, who allegedly had to stop the its production line of wi-fi and bluetooth components (known internally as Sunny Peak), since Apple was its biggest customer. Intel should return to the "stretcher" to improve the product and try to re-equip iPhones by 2022.According to reports to Calcalist, the technology giant may extend its partnership with MediaTek, the current head of Wi-Fi chips for HomePods devices. In this sense, the first iPhone smartphones may have 5G modems manufactured by the Taiwanese company. What may have triggered Apple's interest in MediaTek was the anticipation of the launch of its 5G modem, the Helio M70, which at its June unveiling promised to put it on the market as early as 2019. The component is equipped with 7-nanometer chips, being prepared for speeds up to 6 Gbps.
