Facial recognition is being used to combat human trafficking
Whenever we talk about facial recognition we associate this type of technology privacy issues with due fears of the dangers it poses. However, we would be doing this technology a favor if we did not talk about the benefits it can bring to society.Startup Marinus Analytics is one of the companies hoping to unlock these benefits, more specifically by licensing its face-recognition technology to the authority's agency whose purpose is to combat human trafficking. The technology of this startup was created by the founder and CEO of Marinus Analytics, Emily Kennedy, in order to identify victims. "We find evidence that others can not and we save hundreds of hours of investigation to detectives by targeting them with high-value targets," read the Marinus Analytics website. The Marinus Analytics database is created by 'pulling' images from websites where you can find companions and other professionals in this area by simply applying the company's technology to find it.
