British Security Minister wants to end anonymity online
Ben Wallace, the UK's security minister, assumes that the type of authentication used by banks should also be implemented by Internet companies to eliminate youth bullying online. The politician says people have to make the choice between the "wild west or a civilized society" in cyberspace. The minister's words follow those of Theresa May, who had already warned technology companies to take action on attacks on women on their platforms. Ben Wallace has also targeted social networks such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter to take on their responsibilities and help fight online abuse with the same urgency as they deal with the threats of terrorism by modifying the encryption system that emphasizes anonymity ."Bullying and grooming of young people come about because people know they can not be identified," he told The Times, noting that people should not be protected by anonymity. At the arrival of the G7 summit, Prime Minister Theresa May said that "what is illegal offline must be illegal online, and I will appeal to world leaders to take serious action to address the issues as we are doing in the UK, in our commitment to legislate online hazards.
