Brits are going to have to buy passes to access digital pornography at stationery stores

The Digital Economy Act 2017, passed in the UK in April last year, includes a new set of rules designed to restrict the consumption of pornography on digital platforms to those over 18 years of age. One of the next steps to be taken in this direction will impact online age verification systems, which will be complemented with a physical process. When the law comes into force, British Internet users will be able to go to a stationery shop to acquire a pass that allows them to access these content on the internet. In addition, pornographic sites will also be required to maintain any active scanning system. If this premise is not met, the portals run the risk of being blocked by UK internet providers, and face a fine that can go up to 250,000 pounds. The government also said that each portal will be in charge of developing its own verification software, but existing solutions, which meet the requirements established by the government, require the submission of personal data.According to the first suggestions made by the British Board of Film Classification, the pass can have a fixed cost of 10 pounds, and will give each user a 16 digit code that will unblock access to this type of content. Please note that at the time of purchase users will have to confirm their age by submitting a legal identification document, whose data will not be stored in any database. For the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, the body responsible for developing the legislation to be applied in this sector, this was a measure designed to correspond to some of the "strictest laws ever" in terms of user data protection - are or will be implemented.
