The portability of PlayStation will pass through the smartphones
Sony did not give the best follow-up to the success of its portable console. Though innovative, with its touch-sensitive back panel, PlayStation Vita has not stood out commercially. John Kodera, head of Sony's gaming department, makes the mistake, saying that the portability of the company's video games will essentially go through smartphones and tablets."Instead of separating mobile games from consoles, we need to start thinking about this first universe as a method to create more gaming experiences, and as a way to explore what our consumers are looking for in the portable segment," Kodera said in statements to Bloomberg. The international press suggests that this statement may be a first indication that mobile games will be closely related to the upcoming PlayStation console.Remember that Vita is about to fall victim to time. Sony has recently finished production of physical games for the console, and the PlayStation Plus will no longer offer free games for this portable system as early as 2019.
Currently, PlayStation already has some bets made in the mobile segment. PlayLink, which articulates the versatility of smartphones with fixed consoles, is one of the last. In 2016, the Japanese technology has created an internal department that has since been dedicated to the creation of mobile titles, but the projects have suffered with constant delays.
If the company's mobile strategy turns out to be linked to the launch of a new PlayStation, Sony will have to accelerate any ongoing restructuring processes, once the PS4 has officially entered the last period of its life cycle.
