PlayStation Plus free games for June feature a must-play strategy game
With the first day of June coming up at the end of this week, it’s time to take a look at the free PlayStation Plus games for the next month. As always, there are two free games up for grabs for the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. June’s lineup is rather tame as far as big names go, but there’s one game that strategy fans will definitely want to download while it’s free.
That game is XCOM 2, and it’s easily June’s biggest name. While most strategy enthusiasts have likely already played XCOM 2, this is a great opportunity for those few holdouts to check it out. XCOM 2 shouldn’t really need any introduction, but if you’re new the series, all you need to know is that you’ll be leading a squad of XCOM soldiers as they fight to win back Earth from alien invaders. What’s not to love?
If your answer to that question is “plenty,” then you might be better served by checking out Trials Fusion, which is June’s second free game for PS4. The Trials series has been around for almost two decades at this point, but Trials Fusion is the most recent release in the mainline series. Its physics-based gameplay can prove to be quite the frustration, though, so be prepared for a steep learning curve before you dive in.
On PS3, PlayStation Plus members can count on free copies of Zombie Driver HD and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. PS Vita owners, meanwhile, will have free copies of Atomic Ninjas and Squares to look forward to. In an interesting turn, it seems that neither of the PS Vita games are cross-buy enabled with PS4 this month, which is definitely a rare occurrence.
If you don’t have PlayStation Plus or you’ll soon need to renew your subscription, you might want to wait a few days before you make your move. Sony will be discounting year-long subscriptions to PS Plus in its Days of Play sale, which kicks off on June 8. The discount only shaves $10 off the cost of a year, but still, saving $10 is better than not saving anything at all.
