Who is Kimbal, the 'great' brother of Elon Musk

Elon Musk's electric cars and space invaders, the famous South African billionaire and founder of Tesla and Space X, have made him known all over the world. But his younger brother does not want to be left behind. Kimbal Musk is much less known than Elon, but ambition is something he does not lack. The 45-year-old entrepreneur and philanthropist - only one less than Elon - has set out to revolutionize the way Americans eat, using technology. Some call it "the father of the real food movement".

Food for everyone
Kimbal, who lives in the state of Colorado, owns some restaurants in the United States, such as The Kitchen Next Door, which serves dishes with sustainably produced food, with composting, wind power or eco-friendly packaging. It is perhaps not surprising that, having a modeling and dietician mother and an engineer father, the youngest Musk has chosen to devote himself to introducing technology into the food industry.During the International Food Tank Summit last September in New York, Kimbal stressed that "food is one of the last frontiers that technology has not yet addressed.""If we get it right, there will be food for everyone," he said.

Kimbal Musk studied at the French Culinary Institute in New York and founded the Big Green, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating "learning gardens", which are spaces to teach the benefits of nutritious food in schools. He expects to reach one million students by 2020.
One of his most ambitious and curious projects is Square Roots, an incubator of vertical urban gardens with which he intends to create "real flavors".
With this company, which he founded in 2016, Kimbal wants to encourage entrepreneurs to create start-ups using their technology to produce food in cities in an environmentally friendly way.
Their system consists of using containers with recycled water and hydroponic agriculture (which means growing plants in mineral solutions rather than agricultural soil) to produce food for local consumption.
During a question and answer session hosted by the popular Reddit website on February 27, Kimbal said that "vertical gardens are the future of agriculture and to ensure that local food continues to grow."
He also said that food has charmed him since he was a child and that pursuing his passion was very positive: "It was the best decision of my life."
"We have a lot of food, we need real food that feeds us, and that requires tremendous changes in the way we use the land, we're using very interesting technological approaches."

Technology
According to the entrepreneur at the Food for Tomorrow conference organized by the American newspaper The New York Times last year, only 1 percent of the world's food is produced artificially, with LED lights instead of traditional crops.
But that number could grow if the number of urban gardens increased. "We have spent thousands of years applying technology in agriculture, but it is now that modern technology is working to create real food," Musk said on Twitter.
Elon, your brother, has also become a specialist in this. In addition to founding Tesla, an electric car company, energy storage and solar panel manufacturing company, it created Paypal (online payment company) and other successful companies.
Some of them are the Boring Company, for which it plans to conquer underground, and SpaceX, focused on aerospace exploration and responsible for recent launch into space.
Since he sold PayPal to eBay for $ 1.5 billion 12 years ago, the entrepreneur has become for many a genius, for others a madman, or a visionary, an enlightened, a playboy or a superhero.
