DJI Drones Prepare to Save Lives in Various Situations

Imagine a rundown, on an unlit secondary road in the middle of nowhere on a winter night with very low temperatures. Someone ends up seeing the car bumpy but without anyone inside and calls the emergency number with this information. On the other hand, the authorities decide to activate the drone unit with thermal cameras that eventually find an individual in less than 20 minutes, fallen into a ditch. If such drones had not been used, the person would quite possibly have died.Whoever says road accidents where it is necessary to detect people invisible to the naked eye, says fires and other disasters that imply search and rescue or public safety. And it is to respond to this kind of situations that DJI will have on the market, in a few weeks, the Zenmuse XT2: a thermal camera that will equip the brand's business drones.

The novelty comes from a partnership with FLIR Systems, recognized in the field of infrared imaging systems. The model of the new camera is based on the Zenmuse XT, launched by the brand in 2015.

With a robust design (Ingress IP44), capable of "flying" in a variety of adverse conditions, from rain, high temperatures and smoke, the Zenmuse XT2 has a "visual" camera that offers 4K video recording and 12MP photos. Two 640x512 and 336x256 thermal sensors are available. But it is by "integrated intelligence" that DJI highlights this new camera, able to see what is imperceptible to human eyes.MSX (Multi Spectral Dynamic Imaging), QuickTrack, HeatTrack, TmpAlarm, TempCheck and Isotherms are some of the features offered, which in practice are translated by eg centering the camera at one point, while another "filter" differs images by fields of heat. The alarm function is able to recognize if a certain object is at risk of exceeding a temperature that causes an explosion. It was these and other capabilities of the new chamber that were demonstrated to journalists and partners in a fire simulation that DJI organized in Enschede, The Netherlands.
"Portugal could be a good example of using drones to combat forest fires," he said. According to current data, there are more than 50,000 forest fires per year in Europe, mainly in the south. "There are fire brigades in this region that are using drones, not only to realize the size of the fire, but also with thermal cameras, to detect so-called hotspots in the affected areas, which can not be seen with naked eyes, but which can be very important to prevent the spread of a fire ".
Zenmuse XT2 is compatible with the Matrice 200 and Matrice 600 Pro series drones. But beyond the possibility of integrating the new camera, which will be available in the coming weeks, DJI is also announcing the release of a new version of its SDK , in an even greater customization effort by allowing you to install or link to third-party solutions and products.
