Macs to integrate Apple processors from 2020
According to Bloomberg, 2020 will mark a turning point for Apple. The company has an ongoing process of replacement for Intel processors, which it uses to equip their laptops, and within two years will be able to replace all these components with their own versions.It should be remembered that the company is not exactly a novice in this industry, since it already produces processors for its smartphones and smartwatches. Within two years, the Macs will join this range.The substitution process, which is internally known as Kalamata, is still at an early stage, according to sources quoted by Bloomberg.Trading makes sense, especially for a company that is known to have a closed ecosystem of technological solutions, but there may be security reasons behind this decision. Earlier this year, serious security holes were discovered in some of the chips made by Intel, with one of the bugs identified allowing access to various zones of Kernel memory - the processor area where the core operating system information is used by the device concerned - which was supposed to be protected.In practice, this can enable an application to access all the information of another, thus creating a kind of virtual tunnel that can be exploited in an attack to steal any kind of data from a computer or smartphone. Patches have been made available that promise to solve the problem.It is recalled that until 2006 Apple used IBM processors and that was when the company decided to make the transition to Intel architectures, a step that Steve Jobs announced to ensure that the Macs would be the best personal computers in the world.
