With this application Mathematics will no longer be a seven-headed animal
The University of Algarve's MILAGE (MathematIcs bLended Augmented GamE) project aims to improve performance in the mathematics discipline of all students, including those with worse and better performance in the PISA program, the global school performance assessment network. In this context, and to make mathematics something more motivating and easier, the Milage Learn + Mathematics application was available free of charge from the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.Funded by the European Union, through the ERASMUS + program, the project has an app where there are about 3,000 exercises with different degrees of difficulty, as well as videos explaining the matter, with the voices of teachers. The goal of this project is to combine face-to-face classes with online classes in a blended-learning system in order to extend the learning environment from the normal classroom to a virtual classroom.
The Milage Aprender + application was tested last Tuesday at the University of the Algarve in Faro by about 100 students and teachers from Spain, Norway, Turkey and Portugal. The results of PISA 2015 showed that in Norway, Portugal, Spain and Turkey, about 17.1%, 23.8%, 22.2% and 51.4% of students, respectively, can not reach level 2, considered the minimum for proficiency in Mathematics.
