Portugal obtém primeiros resultados de aposta em rede elétrica inteligente
Do you know Smart Grid?
The Upgrid project, part of the European H2020 program, involving partners with different knowledge and skills in the field of energy: equipment manufacturers, research centers and distribution operators. The goal was to find fully controllable low voltage and medium voltage energy integration and distribution solutions. The project had four practical demonstrators in different parts of Europe, one of them being installed in Lisbon, in Parque das Nações between January 2015 and December 2017. EDP, NOS, INESC TEC and Withus were the Portuguese partners to contribute in their areas of expertise. The system has fed more than 13,000 homes through 150 transformer stations, 10 charging points for electric vehicles and 700 public lighting posts in an area previously without a smart grid. The first counter with intelligent data integration was developed and installed. The counter is based on 4.5G-IoT technology, anticipating the entry of the 5G generation.

The demonstrator originated a sample of the consumption profile of more than 5,000 consumers, and tested some new technologies integrated in the smartgrid. Among them is WebPortal, a platform that makes consumer data available to customers and cost management devices installed in consumers' homes.
