As far as the "earthly accounts" are concerned, the Curiosity rover landed on the soil of Mars in August 2012, traversing 18.7 km. In 2013, the NASA mission found evidence of an ancient freshwater lake that offered all the basic chemical ingredients for microscopic life.Since arriving at Mount Sharp in 2014, the off-road probe has analyzed environments where both water and wind have left their mark. Having studied more than 600 vertical feet of rocks bearing lakes and groundwater, Curiosity's international scientific team concluded that habitable conditions lasted at least millions of years.And it is in one of the points of Mount Sharp that is the next great scientific target of the rover, because it is believed that it contains minerals of clay, being that the formation of clay minerals requires water. Scientists have already determined that the lower layers of Mount Sharp have formed within lakes that once "bathed" the base of Gale Crater.
