TOSHIBA

Any work seems easier with the Toshiba Tecra X40
Despite being further away from the notebook segment for home users for some years, Toshiba remains a strong choice when it comes time to choose a laptop that is intended for use in professional environments. Not to say that the brand is not also a good friend for moments of entertainment and leisure, but to work it is practically "obligatory" to be able to create light and compact machines - and at the same time powerful and safe - as is the case of this new X40 line Tecra, represented here by the D-11F configuration, if we want to particularize a little more.In fact, with 1.25 kg and measures 332 x 228.9 x 16.9 mm, this notebook is among the finest among the options of the brand, and without weighing too much in the suitcase. It is not the most "portable" segment, if you want to compare it with one or another direct competitor, but establishes a good relationship with the components inside and with the 14-inch Full HD screen that enhances a good visual experience and ... tactile. But here we go.

Prior to this it is important to mention two particular points related to the safety precautions that are already "tradition" in the brand's latest laptops. The first of these is biometric and facial authentication technology installed on the Tecra X40.
That is, the entry in Windows 10 Pro 64-bit installed can be automatic and very effective using the fingerprint sensor located on the built-in digital touchpad, SecurePad, with Synaptics Natural ID sensor built-in. Or using the intuitive Windows Hello, here facilitated by the camera that includes infrared technology.

The second point is, in the same logic, the proprietary BIOS that Toshiba integrates into its laptops, causing any unauthorized access of third parties to be blocked by a "last line" of security, so to speak. Even so, we think that Windows entry systems will suffice in conventional "pro" usage.

Well builtScreen, keyboard and all connections are elements that are well combined in a body well achieved at various levels. First of all, the design is sober from a visual point of view, as is the great majority of notebooks designed for the professional segment, in the unique color Onyx Blue (with Hair line). At construction level, however, the work is well done in this model, fruit of the vast experience that the brand has in this field. The chassis is associated with the brand "premium" and the ToughBody magnesium alloy that underpins the design of the Tecra X40 is enhanced by a shock absorbing comb, which theoretically prevents the damage from possible drops and impacts. It always gives way in the busy day to day between meetings ...The connections we have mentioned above also include here a kind of paradigm shift vis-a-vis those we were accustomed to seeing, in a way. Firstly, there is no power connection itself, since the connection to the electric transformer happens through one of the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports present on this laptop.
These connections can also be used to connect monitors and other peripherals, while meeting conventional data transfer needs. For the same purpose there is a USB 3.0 port (Sleep-and-Charge) and a MicroSD card reader. An HDMI port also features presence as well as the 3.5 mm connection for audio and microphone.
Speaking of audio, the installed sound system also has a word to say, we pass the expression. The downloaded sound is not at the level of notebooks more dedicated to multimedia content and entertainment, that's for sure, but the goal is not the same and the sound experience turns out to be positive considering the segment. The culprits are the harman / kardon loudspeakers and the DTS Sound loudspeaker that Maca makes a point of having on the Tecra X40 line.

Performance vs. autonomy
A good laptop for working and walking in constant motion requires "enhanced" autonomy, so that the eventual forgetting of the charger is not a fatal problem at the end of a long day's work.
At this point, however, this configuration of the Tecra X40 presents a "double personality", so to speak, even though there is the awareness here that this is something transverse to the overwhelming majority of laptops in the business segment.
We go on to explain: if we choose energy definitions optimized for energy saving, while sacrificing performance we achieve a very interesting range of autonomy: anything like 5.5 hours of uninterrupted use.

Finally, a reference to the price of 1,999 euros in force for this configuration of the Toshiba Tecra X40. Nothing to do: a notebook with a 14-inch Full HD touch screen and with this dimension / weight ratio turns out to be a relatively high investment, even more with a "filling" at this level.
For moments of entertainment at home, there are many other solutions at the same level of features (and slightly lower prices); for work - and at this level of installed components -, the X40 walks on average performance, price and, in short, daily use experience. More important than that: being lightweight and compact, it will not weigh heavily on "baggage.
