Little Ripper Lifesaver: Meet the Drone to Save Lives

Little Ripper Lifesaver was created as a life-saving drone after his mentor, Kevin Weldon, was impressed by the use of a UAV for identification and location of survivors during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.Kevin Weldon thought the concept he devised would be of great help in surveying the vast Australian coastline, which was proven on January 18, when two young men, aged 15 and 17, were first saved in history with the help of a drone. The rescue came as lifeline swimmers at Lennox Head, a beach popular with surfers in the Australian state of New South Wales, were in a training phase for the future use of the Little Ripper Lifesaver when someone noticed that two people in difficulty 700 meters from the coast.

The drone was then guided to the castaways, arriving in less than two minutes. Once near them, activated a feature that triggers a "rescue capsule" that expands in the water to be grasped. The two teenagers clung to this inflatable "bat" and were brought ashore safely. You can better understand the concept and technology used in Little Ripper Lifesaver from http://littleripper.com.
