Boeing creates drone capable of carrying 226 kg of cargo
Boeing unveiled this week one of its latest creations: an unmanned aerial freighter with a capacity to carry up to 226 kg of weight.The device, which in practice is a more robust drone than usual, was designed and built over three months. The first test flights have already been conducted and the feedback, says Boeing, is positive."This air freighter is another giant leap in Boeing eVOTL's strategy (unmanned aerial vehicles with take-off and vertical landing)",the company said in a statement. "We have here an opportunity to transform the commercial transportation industry and certainly, in the future, we will look at this day as a milestone in the development of this segment," he concludes.To function, this drone to which Boeing has called CAV, is equipped with eight rotors that allow the vertical displacement. In all, the device is 4.57 meters long, 5.49 meters wide and 1.22 meters high, still weighing 339 kilograms.The announcement of this drone comes a few months after Boeing acquired Aurora Flight Sciences. The company has collaborated with Uber in the development of flying taxis and theBoeing believes that freighters like the CAV will complement this future air transport system.
