Amazon registers mirror patent that wears people with virtual clothes
Amazon has been one of the pioneer companies in the ongoing revolution process that is transforming retail. In this case, we are not only talking about its gigantic online store but also the most innovative experiences it has conducted in the physical world, with the introduction of grocery stores without cash registers and drive-thru collection services, as it exists in numerous fast- food all over the world. One of his latest concepts, which still seems to have come out of the phase of technical drawings, is an intelligent mirror that dresses its users with virtual clothes. The patent for this product, recently discovered by GeekWire, has already been registered by the technology giant. The document describes this mirror as partially reflective and partially transmissive. In practice, this means that the gadget articulates a mirror with displays, cameras and projectors, in order to be able to mix the various dimensions of the image in a credible way.To generate the best possible result, the mirror should scan the surrounding environment and the user, thus creating a virtual environment that can then overlap with the actual reflection of the space. Then, whenever the user stands in front of the glass, the mirror should identify its face and the position of its eyes in order to determine which objects should be displayed in virtual model and that others are shown in real format. Once this process is complete, the clothes are then superimposed on the scene, to show a final scene, cohesive, where several realities mingle. Not all patents become commercial products, but the acquisition of Body Labs in 2017 increases the likelihood that we will see this concept materialized in the future. The company specializes in artificial intelligence software and the development of computer vision systems and has in the past created a program where three-dimensional models of human bodies were made that could then be dressed in virtual clothing. In addition, it is also known that Amazon intends to exploit the fashion industry, and the launch of Echo Look was proof of the same ambition. In practice, this mirror could work in parallel with online clothing stores where users could try on clothing and accessories before buying them. The gadget would thus bring a new dimension to the experience of buying products online, giving even more confidence to the consumer, who sometimes struggles with the possibility that one piece or another may not fit him in the best way.
