Company reportedly plans to power more upcoming gaming handhelds than just Nintendo Switch 2

At the current stage, the gaming handheld market is largely dominated by AMD. Thanks to the respectable gaming performance of the RDNA 3 iGPU, handhelds such as the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go (curr. $624.95 on Amazon) have now become a go-to choice for many. Of course, Nvidia does have a place in the market, with the Tegra X1 powering the Nintendo Switch.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is also expected to be powered by a custom Nvidia chip. However, it seems that the green team will potentially be partnering with other gaming handheld manufacturers in the future. At least, that’s what the latest round of rumors are suggesting.

To fill you in, the new round of rumors started with analyst Dan Nystedt leaking the partnership between Nvidia and MediaTek. While the initial rumor was about the pair co-developing an ARM processor for PCs, a new leak from XpeaGPU suggests that the two are “also working on a gaming handheld SoC.”

Here’s the interesting part: the reported gaming handheld SoC from MediaTek and Nvidia doesn’t sound like it’s solely for Nintendo Switch 2. As XpeaGPU adds, Nvidia president Jensen Huang is reportedly “frustrated by Nintendo and he sees a good market potential.”

That suggests that we may see Nvidia partnering with other gaming handheld manufacturers and possibly powering more upcoming handhelds than just the Switch 2. Worth noting that these are very early talks about the development, and we have no confirmation from either Nvidia or MediaTek about the partnership. But if the leaks hold true, we could hear more about the project at Computex 2024 that’s set for next month.
