HUAWEI

Company offers satellite communication in the mid-range

The Nova 11 phones were presented in China, the most capable piece of the trio is also capable of two-way satellite communication.

Huawei is expanding its portfolio in China with three new devices, these are the Nova 11 phones: Nova 11, Nova 11 Pro, Nova 11 Ultra. All three models are available in green and all three phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chip with a modem limited to 4G data connections. Still, the Ultra model has one interesting feature, namely that it is capable of two-way satellite messaging, which until now was only the privilege of high-end devices. BeiDou satellites are used by Huawei, so based on the Mate 50 Pro model, this remains an option available to users living in China.

The Ultra also differs from the Pro model in terms of price, but they are the same in everything else. It has a 6.78-inch 10-bit AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 300 Hz touch sampling. The resolution is 1200 x 2652 pixels, the right and left edges of the display are curved, and the panel is optionally protected by Kunlun glass, which costs an extra 200 yuan for the Pro models. The front cameras are located in the upper left corner, in an elongated cutout. One sensor captures 60 megapixels and a 100-degree field of view, the other 8 megapixels and is capable of 2x optical zoom and collects depth data for portraits.

On the back, there are two cameras on both devices, they are placed in an arrangement somewhat reminiscent of the design of the P60 Pro. The star is the 50-megapixel resolution RYYB sensor in the main camera with adjustable aperture between f/1.4 and f/4 with laser autofocus, next to it dwarfs the 8-megapixel ultra-wide, ten-channel color sensor, which cannot be used for photography alone, but at the same time it helps the main camera and the ultra-wide color reproduction.

The Nova 11 Pro and Ultra have a 4,500 mAh battery, and both phones come with a 100-watt fast charging adapter in the box. However, there is no wireless charging, despite the glass back of the white and gold models. The green and black versions are equipped with a vegan leather back. The software on the Chinese models is HarmonyOS 3.0, the Pro model is available in 256 and 512 GB versions, while the Ultra will only be available in a 512 GB version. Pricing starts at 3,499 Chinese yuan for the Pro without the special protective glass, which is HUF 172,000. For the Ultra, you have to pay 4,499 yuan, which is HUF 221,000. This price already includes the Kunlun protective glass and satellite communication.

The basic model comes with a more restrained appearance, as it retains the 10-bit AMOLED panel, but shrinks to 6.7 inches and offers a flat display instead of diagonal and curved edges. The front-facing camera also only appears as a dot in the top-center, here too it is a 60-megapixel imager with a 100-degree field of view, which can even record video in 4K. The rear camera layout is the same as the Pro and Ultra models.

The battery is smaller in the Nova 11, here it is a 4500 mAh battery, and the charging speed is also slightly slower with its 66 watts. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 (LE), and the software HarmonyOS 3.0 are provided. Storage starts at 128 GB (123,000 forints, 2,499 yuan), but there is also a 256 GB (2,799 yuan, approx. 138,000 forints) model in black, white, gold and green. Each of these models is made with a plastic back, and the Kunlun glass for the display means an extra ten thousand forints of 200 yuan. At the same time, there is a 512 GB version of the black and green version, which is sold with a glass back and Kunlun glass, but for this, Huawei is asking HUF 167,000 3399 yuan in China.

The devices will go on sale in the Far East from April 26, but it is not yet known when they will arrive in Europe. Last year, Huawei introduced the Nova 10 series at the end of summer and started selling them in the Western market at the beginning of autumn.
