Garmin’s new Instinct 2X Solar smartwatch collection that charges with light and is durable
The novelty watches have a clear display in a 50 mm body made of fiber-reinforced polymer, and are tested for durability according to the US military’s MIL-STD-810 standard. The watches are water-resistant to a 10 ATM rating and equipped with chemically hardened, scratch-resistant Power Glass. The watch glass helps extend battery life by producing up to 50 percent more energy than the Instinct 2 solar standard model. With solar charging, according to the manufacturer’s announcement, unlimited battery life can be achieved in smartwatch mode.
The Instinct 2X Solar models are equipped with an integrated LED flashlight, the lighting power of which can be adjusted as needed. Their features also include round-the-clock monitoring of the body’s well-being and sleep monitoring. Sports features include, for example, preloaded Sport Profiles for running, cycling, swimming and strength training. Navigation utilizes integrated sensors such as a tri-axis compass and barometric altimeter, as well as multi-frequency support with several global satellite navigation systems.

The Instinct 2X Solar Tactical Edition model has many special tactical features, such as projected waypoints, two GPS coordinates and compatibility with night vision devices. If necessary, you can also activate the encrypted mode, where the sharing of the GPS location is blocked and wireless connections are turned off. In encrypted mode, the GPS location is displayed on the watch screen, but it is not stored in the watch’s memory or shared.
The new Garmin Instinct 2X Solar smartwatches will go on sale by the end of June. The recommended price of the Instinct 2X Solar version is 469 euros and the Instinct 2X Solar Tactical Edition model is 519 euros.
