Netflix "devours" 15% of the Internet around the world

With more than 130 million subscribers worldwide, the streaming giant consumes 15% of global information traffic, according to Sandvine's Global Internet Phenomena Report. The same study also reveals that in the evening, considered the "prime time" of streaming, consumption by the world's number one downstream application can even reach 40% of all bandwidth. These values are surprising, since Netflix has a reputation for having the lightest and fastest videos among all streaming services, but it is also the one with the most subscribers. If the focus is on the US market alone, the numbers are quite different: Netflix's share is now 19.1%, while YouTube drops to 7.5% and is surpassed by the Amazon Prime Video, which consumes 7.7% of information traffic on the Internet. The other podium seats are occupied by YouTube, with a consumption of 11.4%, and conventional navigation on the Internet, which represents another 7.8% of world traffic. About 4% (4.4%) are reserved for image loading only.Other report findings include information that 57.7% of the world's internet usage is dedicated to videos, while text or static pages represent 17% of traffic. Videogames correspond to only 7.8% of the internet.
