DIGITAL LIFE
E-readers who (still) can replace conventional books
At first glance, it looks like a tablet; closer look, however, one can easily see that it is a gadget with a slightly more luminous touch screen, although the user is not touching the panel as much as one might expect. Yes, it is an e-reader in action with one of the thousands of e-books that are available on the internet with or without associated costs. The world of technology has curious episodes and the capacity to withstand the passage of time by this type of equipment is impressive. The e-reader has existed since when no one even spoke in tablets (it is still in the first decade of this millennium), it is usually exclusively used to reproduce e-books and uses e-ink technologies to display the contents with better readability and often black and white. But what advantages do e-readers continue to be sought on the shelves of specialty stores? There are several, as you can see from the gallery below, made up of some of the most recent readers of digital books that we can choose in these days.Above the other features are those that make an e-reader take advantage of a tablet or a smartphone in the specific task of reading eBooks. We are talking about the screen, which is usually more luminous (with the possibility of adjusting this brightness intensity), better "withstands" the reflections caused by the incidence of direct sunlight or excessive ambient lighting and, consequently, results in lower indexes of eye fatigue.Soon thereafter comes the autonomy. This is a gadget that is usually not useful for surfing the web, "browsing" on social networks, playing YouTube videos or viewing series on Netflix. The tasks that are most energy-consuming on a tablet or smartphone are left out by equipment that is primarily intended for reading. Thus, the integrated batteries can last for weeks, even knowing that the Wi-Fi connection is a characteristic almost always presente.
E-readers do not generate distractions ...There are, however, users who prefer an e-reader for a very particular reason. Not because it is a very light and thin device, but because, like a book, it is a technological object that does not generate any kind of additional distraction. There is no place for notifications, the exchange of messages, or calls that interrupt the concentration. This is to say that the reading experience provided by an e-reader is the closest we find to the concept of normal reading, with a conventional book in the hands. The biggest difference is that the paper format is replaced by the digital format, with the undeniable advantages of being reduced in weight and that we can have in an e-reader dozens or hundreds of books in electronic format. But also to be able to consult a dictionary, or take notes digitally on the book.
