ZEISS

If you're scratching your heads, you're not alone, because that's one interesting combination!

After teasing a new camera earlier this month, Zeiss has taken the wraps off the ZX1, which is perhaps even more distinct than anyone's camera would have guessed. The ZX1 includes a 37.4-megapixel full-frame sensor, developed by Zeiss, paired with a built-in and fixed 35mm f / 2.0 lens. That alone makes for an interesting camera, but the ZX1 also includes a massive 4.3-inch multitouch display, aluminum body, 512GB of built-in SSD storage and Adobe Lightroom CC built right into the camera. If you're scratching your heads, you're not alone, because that's one interesting combination! The new mirrorless full-frame camera aims to combine pro-level image quality with an intuitive and smartphone-inspired user interface. The ZX1 is being marketed in terms of "shoot, edit and share."

What this amounts to with respect to shooting is the Zeiss-designed sensor and integrated Zeiss Distagon 35mm f / 2 T * lens with autofocus capabilities which have been tuned to the sensor.Taking a look at "editing," the ZX1 can process its raw files in camera thanks to fully-integrated Adobe Lightroom CC software, which can be utilized via the camera's 4.3-inch multitouch display, much like what you would experience on a powerful smartphone with Lightroom. Finally, "share" is accomplished via built-in wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) or through the use of USB-C. Thanks to 512GB of internal storage, you can store up to 6,800 raw (.DNG) files or over 50,000 .JPG files on the camera before you need to worry about making space.
Getting into the specifics, the full-frame 37.4-megapixel image sensor has an ISO range of 80 to 51,200. We know that Zeiss designed the sensor, although it is unclear who made it. The mirrorless camera has a shutter speed range of 30 seconds to 1 / 8,000s. The 35mm Zeiss lens has 8 elements across 5 groups, including a pair of double-sided aspherical lens elements. The close-focus distance is just under a foot (30 centimeters). The camera can shoot up to 3 frames per second and offers AF-S and AF-C focusing modes. The camera has a built-in self-timer, interval setting, AE bracketing and a panorama function.

Regarding video, the ZX1 shoots 4K video at up to 30 frames per second and Full HD video at up to 60 fps. The battery has a capacity of 3.119 mAh, but battery life is currently unclear.Looking closer at the design of the ZX1, the camera has an aluminum body and a very sleek shape. The top of the camera includes dedicated shutter speed and ISO dials and a hot shoe. The back of the camera is very simple in appearance, with an electronic viewfinder and the large screen, which will evidently be used for all menu navigation. The EVF is a 0.7-inch OLED with Full HD resolution and the display is a 16: 9 LCD with 338 ppi resolution. The camera weighs around 28 ounces (800 grams) with the battery inserted and has dimensions of 5.6 x 3.7 x 1.8 inches (142 x 93 x 46 millimeters). The lens adds around 0.8 inches (20 millimeters) more from the front of the camera.
