EU gives green light to supercomputer development
According to a communiqué from the EU Council, this company will oversee the sharing of resources in Europe in order to develop supercomputers for the treatment of mega data.High-performance computers are considered fundamental to research and industry digitization and data economics.The European Joint Undertaking for High Performance Computing ("EuroHPC"), due to start operating no later than early 2019, will take the form of a public-private partnership and will provide its members with a legal, contractual and organizational framework .The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking will be funded from various sources: the general EU budget, individual contributions from participating Member States, participating third countries and private investment.The financial contribution from the general budget of the EU will amount to € 486 million: € 386 million from the Horizon 2020 research and innovation framework program and € 100 million from the Connecting Europe Facility program.The Joint Undertaking shall be open to the participation of new members, shall operate until the end of 2026 and shall have its seat in Luxembourg.
