Galaxy Z Fold7: powerful design upgrade
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 eliminates the biggest weakness of its predecessor and is finally super slim. However, this comes with a few compromises, as our review shows. We have summarised these for you in a compact format.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is significantly slimmer than its predecessor when unfolded, measuring just 4.2 millimetres, and 8.9 millimetres when folded. It is available in four colours, with the mint colour exclusively available in the Samsung Store. The workmanship is impressive, and the device is IP48-rated for dust protection and water resistance.
While the display is difficult to open when closed, the hinge reliably holds various angle positions. One negative aspect is the protruding camera, which causes the device to rock when lying flat. The exterior is protected with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, and the back with Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Support for the S Pen has been omitted, but UWB and fast data transfer via USB, including DeX, remain. A linear vibration motor provides precise haptic feedback. The fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button does not always work reliably, but face recognition is available as an alternative.
The device runs on Android 16 and One UI 8.0 and will receive updates for seven years. The Galaxy AI features familiar from the Galaxy S25 series are integrated. In terms of sustainability, Samsung provides transparent information on the materials used, publishes a sustainability report and provides spare parts and instructions for simple repairs.
When it comes to cameras, the Fold7 dispenses with the under-display camera and relies on two regular front cameras with different focal lengths. The triple camera on the back has been upgraded: the main sensor now has a resolution of 200 megapixels, matching the model in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The overall image quality is very good, but in low light, the smaller additional sensors show weaknesses and the zoom quality decreases significantly beyond 5x magnification.
The foldable OLED main display now measures 8 inches, is high-resolution and well calibrated. The maximum brightness is slightly lower than its predecessor, but is high enough for everyday use to allow the device to be used outdoors. The cover display grows to 6.5 inches and achieves similar brightness values to the main display.
