Galaxy Z Fold 7: thinner design, but it looks like the main camera will get in the way
Samsung has already started to build anticipation for its next foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, sharing a silhouette that promises one of the thinnest designs ever on the market. However, if you're imagining a perfectly smooth device, prepare yourself for a surprise. New images that have surfaced online suggest that this ultra-thin elegance will come with a very prominent camera bump, creating a design contrast that will certainly get people talking.
This new top-of-the-line Samsung seems to follow a path of compromises: to achieve an extremely thin body, the brand may have had to highlight its powerful photography system. The result is a device that promises to be elegant in the pocket, but with a strong visual identity on its back.
A pair of images recently surfaced online showing the alleged Galaxy Z Fold 7 inside a protective case, and they reveal a detail that will not go unnoticed. Despite the overall design being noticeably thin, the rear camera module is considerably large, described as being twice as large as the phone's thickness.
This module comes in a vertical island format, with three individual and well-marked camera rings. The reason for this very significant protrusion is most likely due to the main component of the photographic system: a 200 MP sensor with a considerable physical dimension of 1/1.4 inches, which requires more space to house its lenses and components.
In addition to this detail, the images show a thin power button on the side, which also functions as a fingerprint reader, and the volume buttons. It is said that the device will have a titanium back plate, although it is not yet clear whether the frame will also be titanium or if it will remain Armor Aluminum. It is also expected to maintain an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.
The leaks do not stop at the design and point to a set of high-end specifications, as would be expected from one of Samsung's main launches for this year. The 200MP main sensor will undoubtedly be the star of the show, but it won't be alone. Accompanying it will be a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization (OIS). There's also the unconfirmed possibility that the ultra-wide-angle lens will come equipped with autofocus. For your selfies and video calls, you'll be able to count on an improved camera under the main screen and another 10MP on the cover screen.
At the heart of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, aided by 12GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB. Powering the set will be a 4,400mAh battery, with support for 25W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging, already prepared for the new Qi2 standard.
The screens will continue to be a strong point, with a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x external panel and a stunning 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x internal foldable display. Connectivity will be state-of-the-art, including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and UWB.
In terms of software, the Z Fold 7 is expected to arrive with Android 16 and Samsung's One UI 8.0 interface. One of the best news is the brand's update policy: the phone should receive seven major Android operating system updates, ensuring that it will reach Android 23, in addition to seven years of security updates.
Samsung has also started to tease new artificial intelligence features, saying that the phone will be able to "understand what you're looking at," which points to even more advanced contextual AI capabilities.
