Galaxy S25 FE: Exynos 2400 confirmed and few surprises in sight
Get ready, because the first concrete information about the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE is starting to emerge and brings with it some important revelations, especially regarding its “heart”. A recent listing on the Geekbench platform has dispelled the rumors, confirming that the next affordable model in Samsung's top line, codenamed SM-S731U, will be powered by the Exynos 2400 processor.
In recent times, speculation surrounding the Galaxy S25 FE's processor has been intense. Some voices pointed to the Exynos 2400e, a variant of the Exynos 2400 that equips the current Galaxy S24 FE, or even the possibility of Samsung using a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor, especially due to reported problems in the production of its own Exynos processors. However, the Geekbench visit seems to have put an end to this discussion. The confirmed processor is none other than the Exynos 2400 in its standard version. This is the same ten-core component that we already know from the Galaxy S24 and S24+ models launched globally. Its architecture includes a main Cortex-X4 core at 3.2GHz, two Cortex-A720 cores at 2.9GHz, three more Cortex-A720 cores at 2.6GHz and, finally, four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.96GHz, focused on energy efficiency.
The difference between the Exynos 2400 and its “e” variant (Exynos 2400e), present in the S24 FE, is minimal, essentially residing in a slight reduction in the frequency of the main core of the “e” model, which operates at 3.11GHz.
Unsurprising performance...The results obtained by the Galaxy S25 FE in Geekbench 6 are 2064 points in single-core and 6899 points in multi-core. These numbers are very similar to those recorded by its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 FE. This parity suggests that, in terms of raw performance in everyday use, you should not notice a significant improvement when moving from the S24 FE to the S25 FE.
Although software optimizations, which will certainly come with the new One UI 8 interface, may bring some gains, it is important to remember that the Galaxy S24 FE should also receive these same updates. This could mean that both devices will end up offering very similar performance. For those who were eagerly awaiting the S25 FE in the hope of a big leap in performance, this may not be the most encouraging news.
The decision to use the Exynos 2400 in the Galaxy S25 FE is seen by many — and most likely is — as a cost-cutting measure. Let's remember that the Galaxy S23 series was launched exclusively with Snapdragon processors, while the S23 FE ended up reusing the Exynos 2200, the processor of the Galaxy S22 series. The situation seems to be repeating itself this year.
Although the Xclipse 940 graphics processor, integrated into the Exynos 2400, offers support for ray-tracing and is considered “solid” for gaming, it is crucial to note that the demands of everyday use go far beyond video games. Image processing, system animations and other day-to-day tasks are becoming increasingly demanding for processors.
What else is expected from the Galaxy S25 FE...Expected to be launched between September and October 2025, the Galaxy S25 FE, according to rumors, should maintain many other specifications of its predecessor, the S24 FE, such as screen resolution and camera configuration. The question is whether the initial software optimizations, before reaching the previous model, will be able to give it any advantage in the first few months. It is likely that they will. As for the price, we will have to wait and see if it will be more attractive than that of its predecessor.
