MediaTek Kompanio 838 SoC for Chromebooks unveiled with an NPU to boost AI performance
At Computex 2024, MediaTek will showcase its new Kompanio 838 chipset for Chromebooks. The brand has released details of the chip ahead of the event, revealing that it uses a 6nm process and offers significant performance upgrades over its predecessor.
This new chip has a 66% faster CPU and 76% faster GPU. A key feature is support for dual 4K displays, perfect for both entertainment (streaming 4K content) and productivity (connecting to high-resolution monitors).
Connectivity is boosted with Wi-Fi 6 and 6E via MediaTek’s Filogic technology, ensuring faster and more reliable internet. Battery life is another focus, with the chipset enabling Chromebooks to last a full day on a charge.
The Kompanio 838 doesn’t neglect multimedia either. It features the MediaTek Imagiq 7-series ISP for professional-grade photo and video with dual camera support. The MediaTek NPU 650 is there to optimize AI tasks like voice recognition and image processing. You can check out additional details of the chip below.
