In late March, Samsung released the One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 devices globally. This update introduced new AI features to the Galaxy S24 series, but it also brought significant problems. The most notable one reported by users has been excessive battery drain, which persists more than a month after the update was released, causing frustration among users.
The One UI 6.1 update has caused several issues for the Galaxy S23 series and Samsung's latest foldable devices.
Among the issues, users noted difficulties with fingerprint recognition and severe battery drain.
Although Samsung addressed and fixed the fingerprint recognition issue in April, the company remained silent on the battery drain issue.
Despite numerous complaints on online platforms, there has been no official acknowledgment or solution from Samsung.
Typically, major updates can cause a temporary battery drain due to system optimizations, but this usually resolves itself within a few days.
However, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 users continue to experience high battery drain.
SamMobile has confirmed this issue on multiple Fold 5 and Flip 5 units, suggesting the issue is widespread.
It is not yet clear whether Samsung is aware of these reports and actively seeking a solution. In the meantime, users are advised to disable power-intensive features such as always-on display (AOD) and high screen resolution to conserve battery life.
Other Galaxy devices were not affected...Interestingly, other Galaxy devices that received the One UI 6.1 update do not appear to have the same battery draining issues. Since the initial release, Samsung has expanded the update to more than a dozen other models without similar complaints. This indicates that the company may have identified and fixed the issue before proceeding with the wider release.
Despite the recent release of the May security patch for affected devices, the official changelog only mentioned security fixes, with no reference to battery drain improvements. Users are encouraged to check for new software updates through the Settings app as any future fixes may be included in future updates.
