Galaxy Note 9 from 2018 gets Galaxy AI features via custom ROM
Noble ROM 4.1, developed by AlexisXDA, will be released for the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 series next month. The custom ROM was shown off with some working Galaxy AI features, including Google Circle to Search, Live Translate, and Generative Edit.
Samsung has already dropped One UI 6.1 with Galaxy AI for a good number of phones. While many old smartphones are due to receive it, the Note smartphones won’t get the official update as the last device from the lineup reached the end of support in September 2023. But that hasn’t stopped the custom ROM developers.
The Galaxy Note 9, a very popular Samsung phone from 2018, is due to get Nobile ROM 4.1. Developed by AlexisXDA, the previous release of the custom ROM has already brought Android 14 to the smartphone. The developer is now teasing Samsung Galaxy AI features with the new version.
According to the latest teaser, Noble ROM 4.1 will be dropping to Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 series sometime in May. The teaser also showed off many working Galaxy AI features, including Live Translate, Generative Edit, and Google Circle to Search.
What’s rather interesting here is that the developer could get Live Translate working on the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 series. These phones came with Snapdragon 845, released long before Qualcomm started focusing on on-device AI features. However, it’s still unclear how well these Galaxy AI features will work on the 2018 phones.
But it’s worth noting that Noble ROM 4.0, based on One UI 6.0, is stable on these smartphones. So, it’s possible that the Galaxy AI features, at least the ones that are shown to be working, could run just fine on the Galaxy Note 9 and the S9 series.
