O primeiro robô aspirador que sobe e limpa escadas

Ascender: the first robot vacuum cleaner with AI capable of climbing stairs

The world's first robot vacuum cleaner capable of climbing stairs was presented by Migo Robotics. Called Ascender, the product has already raised almost US$2 million in a recently launched Kickstarter campaign. Find out more about the new feature below.

In addition to climbing stairs, the Ascender also works as a regular cleaning robot on flat surfaces.

After creating a map of the house on its first use, it follows that map as it makes its rounds as efficiently as possible.

In doing so, it tracks and avoids obstacles using an HD camera, LiDAR module and six more sensors.

All of these tools provide data to an engine integrated with AI (artificial intelligence).

Ascender can also detect the difference between carpet and floor, vacuuming and activating the mop on its own.

According to Migo, one charge of the 12,000 mAh lithium battery is enough to clean a total area of around 500 m².

When the Ascender automatically returns to its base station, the dirt and used water are emptied and the clean water reservoir is filled. The station's dirt bag promises to last about 60 days before needing to be replaced, while the clean water tanks are expected to last 30 days, according to the manufacturer.

Ascender automatically detects when it's at the top or bottom of a staircase, then moves up or down as needed. It climbs stairs by elevating its main body in relation to the two “stabilizing” wheel units on each side and operates with steps that are at least 15 cm deep.

The robot vacuums or scrubs the floor of each step moving laterally (from side to side) without having to turn. A mobile app (Android and iOS) allows you to set cleaning schedules or even remotely operate the robot via on-screen joystick controls.

How much does it cost?...The planned US retail price is $1,499. Anyone who pre-orders the robot vacuum cleaner on Kickstarter will pay US$849
