The company's stand-alone car has already covered 160 million kilometers
Google's auto-owned division, Waymo, recently shared that its vehicles have surpassed the 160 million mile mark. Impressive as it may be, this was only the first stage of the project that aimed to improve vehicle safety and more."[The cars] are teaching us many things besides safety. They are teaching us things we really have to know about comfort and convenience, which in retrospect seem so obvious. When we started this program, they were not at all obvious, "says Waymo CEO John Krafcik in a conversation with the CNet Roadshow. While satisfied with the evolution of Waymo cars, Krafcik points out that the company still has to solve some challenges, namely making vehicles capable of responding in the same way with less favorable weather conditions."We'll have new sensors to deal with, radars and cameras, which are basically all the equipment. One of the things we want to focus on is to ensure robustness for the four seasons. And that means that cleaning the sensor is a paramount priority design and essence, "Krafcik pointed out.
